About Discover

Work on Discover as a pilot project first began in 2000. The objective was to select and digitise items to support The Visual Arts and Music disciplines of the Arts curriculum. The National Library of New Zealand also plans to digitise resources for other curriculum areas and present them on Discover.

Discover was developed in conjunction with a wide range of educational contributors. These include primary and secondary classroom teachers, heads of departments, College of Education advisers, Ministry of Education curriculum facilitators and subject specialists. Their expertise in helping with this project is gratefully acknowledged.

 Acknowledgments

The National Library of New Zealand wishes to acknowledge the generosity of the hundreds of artists, photographers, musicians, record companies, art galleries, estates, individuals as well as institutions and organisations, both here and overseas, who have kindly given us permission to digitise their works.

Composer Dorothy Buchanan and freelance curator Gerald Barnett selected items for Discover and wrote the essays.

The National Library of New Zealand also gratefully acknowledges the following individuals and organisations that provided permission to reproduce items in Discover:
